This post has been a bit delayed but here is the low down of the new iPhone 4S.

Externally the phone is nearly identical to the iPhone 4 although they have moved the volume buttons and ringer switch so some of your iPhone 4 cases will not fit the 4S.

This table shows the specification of the iPhone 4S, as you can see there isn’t a huge amount to get excited about. The best parts about the new model would have to be the dual core A5 processor, the new camera which records in 1080p by default and the new iOS5 software (compatible with iPhone 4).

New Apps

The iPhone 4S features several new applications. Some come as standard with the iOS5 and others are specific to the iPhone 4S.

The most exiting app would have to Siri which unfortunately you have to buy the new model to use, it’s a voice command app that was previously on the App store that Apple aqquired and turned into a native app. It will talk to the other applications in your phone to let you call people, send texts (or iMessages), or check the weather.

This is all I will be writing about it for now as I want to use it before I can write a full review. Don’t be disheartened, iOS5 does a lot more than I have mentioned above, but seeing as it is available on the iphone 4 I will be writing a full review soon.

Steve Jobs, billionaire co-founder of Apple and the mastermind behind an empire of products that revolutionised computing, telephony and the music industry, has died in California at the age of 56.

Jobs stepped down in August as chief executive of the company he helped set up in 1976, citing illness. He had been battling an unusual form of pancreatic cancer, and had received a liver transplant in 2009.

Steve accomplished a phenomenal amount in his lifetime, rest in peace.

Google+ has now opened to the public allowing anybody to register. Previously, Google+ was invite only while it was being tested, you might remember they did the say thing with Gmail when they first released it. Although the campaign worked wonders for Gmail, the number of people posting on Google+ has actually declined since they opened it for testing.

Hopefully now they might start updating it at a more rapid pace, but even Google’s CEO Larry Page hasn’t posted anything on his Google+ for over a month.

In a video posted last weekend, security researcher Phil Purviance shows how to easily extract a users address book using some simple JavaScript code in a Skype chat.

“I’m going to send a user on an iPhone a message, and when he sees the message, the exploit will run,” the narrator says. “When the exploit code is run, the victim’s iPhone will automatically make a new connection to my server to grab a larger payload instructing the victim’s iPhone to upload its entire address book file to the server.”

This bug is due to errors from both parties, Skype for their security flaws within their app, and Apple for allowing every App full access to the address book. The App is still available in iTunes with no update to fix this.

The British Police have arrested two suspects as part of a continuing investigation with the FBI into computer attacks carried out under the flags of the Anonymous and Lulz Security hacking crews.

The men, aged 20 and 24, were arrested on Thursday in Mexborough, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and Warminster, Wiltshire, under suspicion of committing offenses under the Computer Misuse Act, an article published on Friday in The Guardian reported. The men were arrested separately, and computer equipment from a Doncaster address was confiscated for forensic examination.

Thursday’s arrests came the same day Scotland Yard charged two men with attacks also attributed to Anonymous. Christopher Weatherhead, 20, of Northampton, and Ashley Rhodes, 26, of Kennington, south London, were charged with conspiracy to carry out an unauthorized act in relation to a computer. They are scheduled to in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 7.

Two other suspects, including 22-year-old Peter David Gibson and a 17-year-old from Chester, have already been charged in the case, which relates to denial-of-service attacks on PayPal, Amazon, MasterCard, Bank of America, and Visa in December.

The arrests are part of a trans-Atlantic crackdown on Anonymous following an 18-month hacking spree by the loosely organized griefer group. In the past few months, dozens of people in North America and Europe have been snared in the probe, including 14 people in the US and five in the UK and the Netherlands.

Steve Jobs said he was unable to continue as chief executive officer of Apple and handed the reins to Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook. After a brief halt, Apple’s shares slid 5.13% to $355.70 in after-hours trading, after closing at $376.18, up $2.58, at 4 p.m. on the Nasdaq Stock Market Wednesday.

Mr. Cook, 50, has been widely considered as the leading candidate to succeed Mr. Jobs, who has been on medical leave since January. The 13-year Apple veteran, who joined the company shortly after Mr. Jobs took over for the second time in 1997, has been running the day-to-day operations during this period as he has done during two prior medical leaves of absence by Mr. Jobs in the last seven years.

“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know,” Mr. Jobs said in his resignation letter. “Unfortunately, that day has come.”

This isn’t the first time that Facebook has published private information about its users, and when I came across this one I wasn’t best pleased. If you have a Facebook app on your phone the likelihood is Facebook has stored the numbers from all the contacts. If you navigate to [Account -> Edit Friends -> Contacts] you will see a long list of contacts you never remember giving to Facebook.

On the right hand side there is an option to remove the list but first you will have to disable the feature on your phone. Do you ever remember turning this feature on? no, me neither.

If you open your Facebook app and go to the syncing options from the friends menu you can turn it off. What has annoyed me more is that it doesn’t mention that your contacts will be imported into Facebook.

If you are interested in this article it may be worth you turning off facial recognition too. You’re not aware of facial recognition? Doesn’t surprise me.

Facebook = Evil

The Governments new e-petitions website states that any petitions reaching 100,000 signatures will be eligible for debate in the House of Commons. This morning a petition named “All convicted rioters to lose their benefits” was at 95,000 signatures. So great! that means only 5,000 more signatures….. if the website wasn’t down. AGAIN.

*Update

They have now taken the e-petitions website down for maintenance work, but they did confirm the petition has now reached 100,000 signatures.
